Inputs and assumptions
- Panel width between post centers
- Panel mode
- Gate width
Each segment starts at the previous endpoint. Gate start and width are distances between post centers; enter zero width for no gate. 0° points right and 90° points up. A closed loop must end at its starting point. The start coordinates apply only when New start is selected.
Formula
N_p = Σ ceil(Lf / S)
Compare the assembly method
A panel is a preassembled section or a kit installed between compatible posts. Individual pickets let you build the infill on rails at the site. The choice changes the ordering list: panel kits may include rails and infill, while loose-board construction needs those counted independently.
Panels can simplify repeated straight bays, but corners, short returns and slopes require compatible cuts or special parts. Loose pickets offer more freedom in width and gap. They also require more measuring, fastening and consistency during installation. Check whether a panel can be cut without removing required reinforcement.
Compare the same height, finished length and number of gates. List included brackets, rails, post caps and gate hardware beside each quote. In the panel calculator, enter the specified center-to-center post spacing, not a nominal panel label. For wood pickets, enter the actual board width.
This is a materials estimate, not a structural design. Gate frame boards and hardware are separate. Follow the product label. Yield and coverage are editable.
